  • Information on the HTGR process heat reactor is presented concerning engineering drawings; 850/sup 0/C IDC list of major equipment; 950/sup 0/C DC list of major equipment; and turbine plant line sizing data.
  • This report describes the status of the studies conducted on the 850/sup 0/C ROT indirect cycle and the 950/sup 0/C ROT direct cycle through the end of Fiscal Year 1981. Volume I provides summaries of the design and optimization studies and the resulting capital and product costs, for the HTGR/thermochemical pipeline concept. Additionally, preliminary evaluations are presented for coupling of candidate process applications to the HTGR system.
  • Studies conductd on HTGR systems in FY 1980 were concluded in Application Study Reports to describe the preconceptual system designs to that point and discuss possible applications for three variations of the systems; the steam cycle/cogeneration plant, the higher temperature reformer plant, and the gas turbine concept. The HTGR-Reformer Application Study was conceived and directed to evaluate the HTGR-R with a core outlet temperature of 850/sup 0/C as a near-term Lead Project and as a vehicle to long-term HTGR Program Objectives. The scope of this effort included evaluations of the HTGR-R technology, evaluation of potential HTGR-R markets, assesment of themore » economics of commercial HTGR-R plants, and the evaluation of the program scope and expenditures necessary to establish HTGR-R technology through the completion of the Lead Project.« less
  • The appendixes are presented of a report on heat pump optimization and a pilot plant design. Questionnaires were mailed to 22 industrial plants in order to obtain data on waste heat streams in the temperature range of 130/sup 0/ to 200/sup 0/F and the potential use of low-pressure (10 to 40 psig) process steam. Results of the questionnaire are presented in Appendix A. Data on conventional tube heat exchanger sizing and heat pump plant equipment sizing and cost are presented in Appendixes B and C respectively. Appendix D presents detailed Open-Open heat pump design drawings and Appendix E contains themore » detailed design and component specifications. (MCW)« less
  • The following appendices are included: (1) experimental evaluation of materials for use as limiters, wall armor, or beam dumps, (2) a baseline beam dump for cost comparison purposes, and (3) beam dump manufacturing schedule. (MOW)
