The Atlas and Coaling Asbestos Mines sites are reviewed together because they are located close to each other and close to several natural and anthropogenic sources of asbestos and inorganic chemicals that are common to both sites. Based on the available information, these sites are considered to be of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via inhalation of asbestos in ambient air, inhalation of contaminated soils and sediment, and ingestion of contaminated surface water from the California Aqueduct.
