At present, 210 kg/s of brine are produced and injected in the Los Azufres geothermal field, using politethylene pipes. The scaling has occurred in these pipes and in the injector wells, mainly silica and, had been one of the main problems to solve in the operation of the field. Several tests have been made in order to minimize the scaling and to understand and to reduce the maintenance. At present the injection lines are cleaned using special tools to ream the internal diameter of the pipes. In this paper are presented the results obtained with the reamers and a discussion on how to avoid the scaling in the injector wells.
