TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF THE SIZE OF THE HYPERFINE STRUCTURE OF THE DISINTEGRATION OF Dy$sup 161$ LEVELS IN PARAMAGNETIC DYSPROSIUM OXIDE (in Russian)
The resonance absorption of the 26 and 75 kev gamma y rays of Dy/sup 161/ was investigated by means of a Gd/sub 2/O/sub 3/ in which the 3.7-min half life Gd/sub2/O sub 3/ is formed upon irradiation in a reactor, decaying subsequently into the 7.15-day half-life Tb/sub 161/. 0uring the beta decay of Tb/sup 161/ gamma -rays are emitted Dy/sub 2/O/sub 2/ containing 90% Dy/sup 161/ was used as absorber during the studies which were carried out with the source kept stationary while the absorber was kept in a reciprocating motion. The resonance absorption of the 26-kev rays was found to be only slightly temperature dependent, presenting a rare case in which this phenomenon could be studied at temperatures ranging from 80 to 840 deg K. The size of the hyperfine disintegration and accordingly the inagnetic field of the nucleus are considerably dependent on the temperature in view of the temperature dependence of the relaxation time of the electron shell spin. Studies with the 75-kev rays indicated that the magnetic moment agree quite well with the shell model. (TTT)
