VALIDITY OF SPECTROGRAPHIC DETERMINATIONS OF TRACE ELEMENTS IN GRANITE G-1 AND DIABASE W-1

New spectrographic analyses for sixteen trace constituents in granite G- 1 and diabase W-1 are presented and compared with the latest recommended values. It is suggested that the use of G-1 and W-1 as primary standards may cause serious errors if there are significant differences among samples. Although the statistical evidence does not warrant unqualified acceptance of the validity of the recommended values yet, experience has shown the worth of these two rock samples in improving analytical accuracy.
