A BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF THE REACTION OF MUSCLE TISSUE TO RADIATION DAMAGE UNDER CONDITIONS OF MECHANICAL TRAUMA (in Russian)
One of the hind extremities of the white rat was subjected to an x-ray dose of 2000 r with a 5 mm lead protective shield being used to cover the rest of the body. On the day after irradiation, a transverse cut was made in th calf muscle, or else a graft of granulated irradiated calf muscle was performed. No operation was carried out on the control group. The rats were killed on the lst, 2nd, and 3rd days after the operation. The use of transplanted, granulated tissue hastened the recovery process. The content of ribonucleic acid (RNA) was 260% above normal. The RNA content was found to attain 200% above normal for the rats with a transverse cut on the caif. lf the transverse cut is made after irradiation, the recuperative process is slowed down significantly. The recuperative processes begin earlier and proceed more intensively with the use of transplanted, granulated muscle tissue than they do when a transverse cut is made on the calf muscle. (TTT)
