A STUDY OF THE REACTIONS K$sup -$ + p $Yields$ K + N + ($pi$) AT 1.15 Bev/c (thesis)
/c: K/sup -/ + p yields K/sup -/ + p, K/.sup -/ + p yields K/sup 0/ + n, K/s up -/ + p yields K/sup -/ + p + pi /sup 0/, K/sup -/ + p yields K/ sup -/ + n + i/sup 0/. Cross sections for each of these reactions and angular distributions f or the elastic and charge-exchange scatters are presented. From the analysis of the K/sup -/ + p + pi /sup 0/ events, the cross section for the reaction K/sup -/ + p yields K*/sup -/ + p, with the K*/sup -/ decaying into K/ sup -/ + pi /sup 0/ was obtained. Combining this cross section with that for K/ sup -/ + p yields K*/sup -/ + p followed by K*/sup -/ yields K(bar)/sup -/ + pi /sup -/, a value of 0.5 plus or minus 0.2 was found for t he branching ratio, (K/sup *-/ yields K(bar)/sup 0/ + pi /sup -/). This value substantiates the earlier preliminary result of isotopic spin/2 for the K* resonance. (auth)
