Conceptual design description for the tritium recovery system for the US ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) Li sub 2 O/Be water cooled blanket
The tritium recovery system for the US ITER Li{sub 2}O/Be water cooled blanket processes two separate helium purge streams to recover tritium from the Li{sub 2}O zones and the Be zones of the blanket, to process the waste products, and to recirculate the helium back to the blanket. The components are selected to minimize the tritium inventory of the recovery system, and to minimize waste products. The system is robust to either an increase in the tritium release rate or to an in-leak of water in the purge system. Three major components were used to process these streams, first, 5Amore » -
DIFFUSE: a FORTRAN program for design computation of tritium transport through thermonuclear reactor components by combined ordinary and thermal diffusion when the principal resistance to diffusion is the bulk metal
Based on the theory developed in an earlier report, a FORTRAN computer program, DIFFUSE, was written. It computes, for design purposes, rates of transport of hydrogen isotopes by temperature-dependent quasi-unidirectional, and quasi-static combined ordinary and thermal diffusion through thin, hot thermonuclear reactor components that can be represented by composites of plane, cylindrical-shell, and spherical-shell elements when the dominant resistance to transfer is that of the bulk metal. The program is described, directions for its use are given, and a listing of the program, together with sample problem results, is presented.
