Title: X Ray Study of the Crystal Structure of Zirconium Triselenide (ZrSe$sub 3$) (thesis); RONTGENOGRAPHISCHE UNTERSUCHUNG DER KRISTALLSTRUKTUR DES ZIRKONTRISELENIDS ZrSe$sub 3$ (DISSERTATION)

By use of x-ray photographic methods, the crystal structure of ZrSe/sub 3/ was investigated. The monoclinic elementary cell contains two formula units of ZrSe/sub 3/ which yield an x-ray photographic density of 5.70 g/cm/sub 3/ compared with an experimental value of 5.62 g/cm/sub 3/. For determination of the atomic coordinates, the reflection intensities of the two zones were measured. Characteristic of the ZrSe/sub 3/ structure is the presence of a layer lattice with pronounced asymmetrical coordination of the Se atom. A part of the Se atom is bound to the Se/sub 2/ couple. The important distances are Zr --Se = 2.73 A and Se--Se (couple) = 2.35 A. (M.C.G.)
