DETECTION LEVEL OF THE FILM BADGE SYSTEM
Improvement in the calibration system and installation of automatic processing equipment has contributed to the over-all accuracy of the film badge system and reduction of detection level. However, the largest contribution is derived from the ability of the film emulsion to record measurable densities at lower dose levels. Previously the detection level was quoted as 40 mr at about the 95% confidence level for 502 film emulsion. A statistical study of 508 emulsion response data collected from "production": batches indicate the detection level of the film badge system is now approximately 15 mr at the 90% corfidence level considering normal distribution of density-dose values for the 30 mr calibration level. With thirteen routine badge periods per year, the annual detection level is approximately 195 mr for penetrating gamma radiation. (auth)
