Title: APPLICATION OF RECOIL TECHNIQUES TO STUDY OF THE REACTIONS Ra$sup 226$$($$alpha$,4n)Th$sup 226$, Pb$sup 208$$($$alpha$,2n)Po$sup 210$, AND Pb$sup 207$$($$alpha$,n)Po$sup 21$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

The ranges and angular distributions of the recoiling residual nuclei from the systems Ra/sup 226/( alpha 4n)Th/sup 226/ Pb/sup 208/( alpha , 2n)Po/ sup 210/, and Pb/sup 207/( alpha ,n)Po/sup 210/ were examined to obtain information about the reaction mechanisms. The experimental angular distributions were compared with distributions calculated by a Monte Carlo method based upon the compound nucleus and statistical models. The results from the R/ sup 226/( alpha ,4n) reactions agree with the calculations; the Pb/sup 208/( alpha ,2n) and Pb/sup 207/( alpha ,n) data require substantial contributions from direct-interaction mechanisms.
