Title: POSTIRRADIATION TREATMENT OF LETHAL TOTAL BODY IRRADIATION BY CELL-FREE SPLEEN EXTRACTS

Journal Article · · Am. J. Roentgenol., Radium Therapy Nuclear Med.
OSTI ID:4811493

Post-irradiation treatment with homologous as well as heterologous cell- free spleen extracts in appropriate doses was found to reduce radiation mortality in guinea pigs. Treatment with cell-free spleen extracts restored spleen and bone marrow. Other advantages of the use of spleen extracts over marrow grafts are also given along with its advantages over chemicals. Spleen extract treatment can be started after irradiation (during the latent period) when most chemicals fail to reduce mortality. Treatment with cell-free spleen extracts is also free from unpleasant side and deleterious late effects. (P.C.H.)
