Title: CESIUM SALT CONVERSION PROCESS

Abstract

A method is given for converting complex cyanide salts of cesium, particularly those containing zinc and ferrocyanide ions, into simple cesium salts. The method comprises treating the insoluble complex cyanide salt precipitate with an aqueous suspension of silver carbonate, whereby cesium is left in solution as the carbonate. The reaction may be written as Cs/sub 2/ ZnFe(CN)/sub 6 + 2 Ag/sub 2/CO/sub 3 yields Ag/sub 4/Fe(CN)/sub 6/(s) + ZnCO/sub 3/(s) + Cs/sub 2/CO/sub 3/(aq). The met hod is particularly suitable for treating complex cyanide salts of Cs/sup 137/ which were precipitated from reactor waste solutions. (D.L.C.)
