Title: EFFECT OF HIGH DOSE LOCAL IRRADIATION ON THE BASIC SUBSTANCE OF THE DERMAL CONNECTIVE IN HIBERNATING ANIMALS (HISTOCHEMICAL RESEARCH) (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Radiobiol. Latina
OSTI ID:4808604

S>By means of a histochemical method based principally on metachromasia, studies were made of the variation in the interstitial mucopolysaccharides of the skin (on which diffusion essentially depends) in animals irradiated locally with doses of 5000 to l5000 r during hibernation and when awake. In previous investigations, less pronounced diffusion of liquids injected into the skin was in fact observed in animals irradiated while hibernating. It was observed that the weakening of the metachromatic reaction is appreciably less marked in animals treated during hibernation and concluded that the direct effect of x rays was less intense during hibernation.
