Title: RADIOBIOLOGICAL STUDY ON VICIA FABA SEEDS. THE INFLUENCE OF WATER CONTENT, OXYGEN SUPPLY, AND STORAGE PERIOD ON PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RADIATION EFFECTS (in German)

Abstract

Electron spin resonance measurements on Vicia faba seed showed that in the seed coat higher concentrations of free radicals are induced by x rays than in the embryo. Free radicals were also induced by drying and illumination. Growth measurenments on plants from irradiated seeds showed that in dry seeds x- ray damage is lightdependent. Seeds soaked immediately after the end of irradiation and grown in the light produced plants in which the relative shoot and root growth differed from darkgrown plants. After effects of radiation damage were also found to be dependent on lighting conditions. (C.H.)
