The appearance of dominant lethal mutations in Drosophila sperma after fast neutron doses of 600to 2400 r is directly proportional to the dose. The dose relation in spermatids exposed to gamma radiation and fast neutrons for dominant and recessive lethal mutations is quite similar. The relative biological efficiency of neutrons is 3 times higher than for gamma radiation in sperma, while in spermatids it is only 1.5 times higher. The sensitivity of sperma and spermatids to fast neutrons is very similar to that of spermatids. (R.V.J.)
