Title: A 200-Mw(e) DIRECT CYCLE BOILING WATER REACTOR WITH INTEGRAL NUCLEAR SUPERHEAT. Reference Design with Double-Annular Boiling-Superheating Fuel Elements

Abstract

An improved version of an integral nuclear superheat reactor using a double-annular fuel element which boils water on its outside surface and superheats steam on its inside surfaces is described. The reactor delivers superheated steam to the turbine at 1000 deg F and 1200 psia with an estimated efficiency of 39.1%. Mechanical design, nuclear analysis, thermal and hydraulic design, plant design, plant equipment, operation and control, economic s, research and development, and reactor safety are discussed.
