Title: "EDAC" AN ELECTRONIC DATA ANALYZING CENTRE FOR NUCLEAR PHYSICS RESEARCH

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4768415

The analyzing equipment associated with the Chalk River Tandem Van de Graaff accelerator is being extended into a large data-analyzing center available for concurrent use by several major experimental facilities within the Physics Division. The use of the 900-channel multidimensional pulse analyzer has extended the scope of nuclear physics experiments considerably. This will be further extended by the addition of a magnetic-tape recording system to the analyzer. Analyzing capacity using magnetic-core storage is to be increased by 8,192 channels and will be capable of accepting data at a mean rate of 10/sup 5/ events per second. A number of experiments may concurrently use separate portions of this analyzer provided that the total counting rate does not exceed this maximum. A high-speed digital computer is to be connected directly to this and other analyzers so that immediate and precise assessments of the accumulating data will be possible. The computer will also find use in the automatic control of routine data gathering and as an aid to the operation of the Tandem Van de Graaff. (auth)
