Title: Flash Thermal-Diffusivity Measurements Using a Laser

Journal Article · · Review of Scientific Instruments
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1063/1.1717696· OSTI ID:4764678

The single-heat-wave (flash) method with a time vs temperature amplitude measurement on the back face was chosen for measuring the thermal conductivity of coated fuel-particle specimens. For the flash, a laser beam from a Cr-doped ruby rod was selected. The apparatus for use with the flash method is described. Experimental thermal conductivity data are plotted vs temperature for 7087 graphite, type 347 stainless steel, and a typical coated fuelparticle specimen.
