>The radiochemicai oxidation of Fe/sup 2+/ ions and acetone in aqueous 0.8N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ by gamma radiation in the presence of oxygen was investigated. The oxidation proceeds by the Kolthoff mechanism which is supplemented by the reaction of acetone with hydrogen atoms. The velocity constant of the reaction OH radicals with acetone was determined with the Fenton reaction. The theoretical yield of Fe/sup 3+/ calculated from the kinetic equation shows, in the region of low acetone concentration, good agreement with the measured values. (tr-auth)
