SOME THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF THE ANOMALOUS SHAPE IN THE ALLOWED BETA DECAY SPECTRA
The influence of strong interactions (nuclear forces) on weak interactions is investigated in the case of nuclear beta decay. The aim is to see whether in the allowed transitions such influences can produce an anomalous distortion of the form 1 + b/W. The V-A combination of interaction is chosen. The general form of the non-relativistic interaction Hamiltonian including relativistic effects is taken into account. Correction factors for the spectra and longitudinal polarization are given. The case of the G-non-conserving term is discussed separately. It seems that the anomalous distortion (if it really exists) cannot result from the influence of strong interactions. It is easy to produce distorti on of the desired form for either BETA /sup +/ of BETA /sup -/ decay separately, but it is impossible to do this for BETA /sup +/ and BETA / sup -/ decays simultaneously.
