A method and the apparatus used for the liquid phase production of Ti, V, Si, Hf, Zr, Th, Nb, and Cr by the reduction of a halide of the desired metal with a suitable reducing agent in an atmosphere rich in either metal product halide gas, reducing agent gas, or some suitable inert gas are described. The reducing agents are Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, and Ca, with Na being preferred. Conditions for the process are listed. (P.C.H.)
