Title: EXTRACTION OF THORIUM FROM THORIUM CHLORIDE AND PRODUCTION OF MAGNESIUM- THORIUM ALLOYS

Abstract

A process is outlined for producing a Mg-Th hardener alloy. The process comprises forming a fused mixture of Th chloride and an alkali metal or alkaline- earth metal chloride, treating the fused mixture with an excess of Mg, and separating the resulting Mg- Th alloy from the melt. CaF/sub 2/ may be added to the separated alloy to convert the residual chlorides to a dense solid mass. (D.L.C.)
