Title: MANY-BODY PROBLEMS. PART II. Lecture Given by G.E. Brown at Universitetets Institut for Teoretisk Fysik and NORDITA Copenhagen

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4708621

A short history of pairing phenomena precedes analytical mathematical treatment of a degenerate model that is also solved in quasispin formalism. A more general system with two unperturbed levels is treated, and a quasiparticle method for solving the hamiltonian is applied to the degenerate case. The nondegenerate case is solved by Hartree-Fock treatment. Quasiparticle excitations, effect on moment of inertia of pairing (moment of inertia decreases), and vibrations in paired nuclei are included in the study. The role of phonons in superconductivity is introduced, and the Debye theory of specific heat is included to provide a model with which to handle phonons. Finally, theory of electron-phonon and electron-electron interactions in superconductivity is presented. (D.C.W.)
