Title: PRODUCTION OF RADIOISOTOPES IN HIGH SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES. PREPARATION OF $sup 51$Cr IN A HIGH SPECIFIC ACTIVITY BY THE USE OF POTASSIUM CHROMATE (in Japanese)

Abstract

Attempts were made to improve the filtration and leaching methods for the preparation of Cr/sup 51/. The separation of (Cr/sup 51/)/sup 3+/ from target chromate was examined by filtration in an alkaline solution. Various filters were investigated. The most favorable results were obtained by the use of filter paper Toyo, No. 5c, which gave good results in a 0.05 to 0.1N NH/sub 4/ OH solution. A constant yield of Cr/sup 51/ was observed by exposing the solution of irradiated chromate for 1 hr to 6 days at room temperature. This method is suitable for treatment of relatively small quantities of the target. The separation of Cr/sup 51/ from target chromate by coprecipitation with La(OH)/ sub 3/ followed by leaching with a NaOH + Na/sub 2/O/sub 2/ solution was also examined. The collection of Cr/sub 51/ in a trivalent state by La(OH)/sub 3/ was proved to be of high efficiency. The use of 4 to 6% Na/sub 2/O/sub 2/ gave good results. This method is suitable for treatment of large quantities of target chromate. (P.C.H.)
