In this study we investigate the calibration of surface brightness–color (SBC) relations based solely on eclipsing binary stars. We selected a sample of 35 detached eclipsing binaries with trigonometric parallaxes from Gaia DR1 or Hipparcos whose absolute dimensions are known with an accuracy better than 3% and that lie within 0.3 kpc from the Sun. For the purpose of this study, we used mostly homogeneous optical and near-infrared photometry based on the Tycho-2 and 2MASS catalogs. Zwicky Transient Facility and Globular Clusters: the Period–Luminosity and Period–Luminosity–Color Relations for Late-type Contact Binaries

In this work, we aimed to derive the gri-band period–luminosity (PL) and period–luminosity–color (PLC) relations for late-type contact binaries, for the first time, located in globular clusters, using the homogeneous light curves collected by the Zwicky Transient Factory (ZTF). We started with 79 contact binaries in 15 globular clusters, and retained 30 contact binaries in 10 globular clusters that have adequate numbers of data points in the ZTF light curves and are unaffected by blending. STATE TRANSITIONS IN BRIGHT GALACTIC X-RAY BINARIES: LUMINOSITIES SPAN BY TWO ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE

Using X-ray monitoring observations with the All-Sky Monitor on board the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer and the Burst Alert Telescope on board the Swift, we are able to study the spectral state transitions occurred in about 20 bright persistent and transient black hole and neutron star binaries. We have confirmed that there is a correlation between the X-ray luminosity corresponding to the hard-to-soft transition and the X-ray luminosity of the following soft state. The luminosities of bright H II regions in NGC 628 and its O star formation rate

H-alpha photometric observations of the face-on Sc spiral galaxy NGC 628, obtained using 10-nm-bandwidth filters and a CCD detector on the 1.5-m Palomar telescope during October 1985, are reported and analyzed. Absolute luminosities are determined for 183 bright H II regions, and it is estimated that they contain clusters of about 100 young ionizing stars on average.
