Title: ZED-2 EXPERIMENTS WITH AN ENRICHED UO$sub 2$ FUEL BUNDLE IN AN NPD LATTICE

Abstract

Experiments have been done in ZED-2 to determine the flux perturbations and reactivity effect produced in an NPD mockup lattice by a CANDU-type fuel bundle containing enriched UO{sub 2} (2.50 w/o U-235). The maximum thermal flux perturbations observed in the ZED-2 lattice were + 18% at the surface of a neighbouring fuel channel and + 19% in an adjacent fuel bundle in the same fuel channel. A simple method, based on the ZED-2 measurements, is outlined for predicting the reactivity effect of a similar enriched UO{sub 2} bundle in the NPD reactor. The method gives good agreement with the effects observed to date in NPD. (auth)
