IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATICALLY PERFORMING LABORATORY OPERATIONS
Remote-control apparatus for automatically performing laboratory operations is patented. The apparatus consists of a worktable with superposed working planes, on whlch displaceable receptacles may be placed and in which stationary devices for performing physical treatments and/or measurements are mounted. A device, which is displaceable vertically, longitudinally, and transversely, is supported by the worktable and carries a set of pipettes. A motor-driven pump and a liquid-level detector control the suction and discharge of liquid through the pipettes. The displaceable device also supports a grip unit for grasping and transfurring receptacles. The displaceable device, motor- driven pump, liquid-level detector, and grip unit may be automatically cortrolled in a predetermined sequentially timed order. The apparatus may be remotely controlled and may reproduce automatically, as many times as desired, predetermined operation cycles. Various components, including the displaceable device, liquid-level detector, and automatic control mechanisms, are described. (M.P.G.)
