A real-time system is a system which must produce its outputs within specified time intervals. Generally, the failure of such systems has catastrophic consequences. The critical nature of such systems suggests the use of formal specification techniques (FSTs) in their development. In developing industrial-strength FSTs it is imperative that they enhance and/or strengthen good industrial habits and practice. FSTs that utilize notations and concepts that are not familiar to system developers would invariably lead to mistakes. In this paper the authors present an environment for developing formal system models in a manner consistent with good industrial practices.
