Statistical characteristics of the global wave statistics data and long-term predictions
- Kyushu Univ., Higashi, Fukuoka (Japan)
This paper discusses the influence on long-term predictions of the ship responses in ocean by using the Global Wave Statistics data. GWS, with special emphasis given to its scatter diagram rounded by one thousandth (1/1000), and it proposes a practical method for correcting round figure error of GWS. In order to compare predictions based on GWS with other wave data, GWS`s standard scatter diagrams of significant wave height and zero-crossing wave period are suggested to be corrected to a round number of 0.01/1000 fitted with a statistical analytic model of the conditional lognormal distribution for zero-crossing wave period. The statistical characteristics for both Corrected and Uncorrected GWS data are calculated and examined in point of quality level. And then, a series of numerical long-term predictions of ship responses such as vertical accelerations, etc. are also executed by using both corrected and uncorrected one, and both long-term predicting values are compared and investigated for standardizing the format of wave data. Based on the present comparison, it is shown that the influence (maybe underestimate) on long-term predictions of the ship response by using original GWS data, rounded by 1/1000, could not be neglected.
