DEVELOPMENT OF A CONTINUOUS METER FOR OXYGEN IN SODIUM. Quarterly Progress Report for the Period, September 1, 1962 to December 31, 1962
Previous experiments have shown that it is possible to monitor the concentration of sodium oxide dissolved in liquid sodium by an electrochemical method. The electrochemical cell consists of a metal-metal oxide electrode, a calcia-stabilized zirconia electrolyte, and an electrode of sodium containing the dissolved sodium oxide whose concentration the cell determines. A pumped sodium loop for testing the electrochemical cells was designed and construction was started. Experiments with various electrochemical cells were continued. Ceils with a Cu--Cu/sub 2/O reference eiectrode proved to be the most stable and yielded the most reproducible results. Some anomalies were observed in the measurement ofmore »
