Multiwire proportional chamber system for monitoring the position and profile of a charged particle beam

A multiwire proportional chamber system with a simple capacitive readout has been built to monitor the beam profile and position of charged particle beams. The system was successfully used in a 1 cm diameter proton beam of intensity l0i to 10ii protons/s. Using a collimated /sup 90/Sr source is was found that the position of a beam could be determined to better than 1.5 mm. (auth)
