Title: Identification and radio spectra of bright galaxies in the second Bologna catalogue of radiosources and their radio luminosity function

Journal Article · · Astron. Astrophys., v. 24, no. 1, pp. 69-78
OSTI ID:4402768

Radio sources in the second Bologna Catalogue (Colla et al., of Bright Galaxies (G. and A. de Vaucouleurs, 1564) and in Vol. 2 and 3 of the Catalogue of Galaxies and of Clusters of Galaxies (Zwicky and Herzog, 1563, 1966); the two samples contain respectively 25 and 40 identified galaxies. These objects have been observed at 1415 MHz at Nancay to obtain their spectral indices between 408 and 1415 MHz. It is shown that intrinsically bright spiral galaxies are more likely to be radio emitters than the fainter ones, and the radio luminosity function is derived for spiral galaxies. Using various criteria, it is confirmed that there exist two classes of elliptical galaxies on the basis of their ratio properties, and the radio luminosity function for the galaxies with rived.
