Galactic continuum loops and the diameter--surface brightness relation for supernova remnants

The linear diameter and average sunface brightness at 1 GHz of 5 galactic continuum loops were estimated in order to find their positions in the D- -E diagram for supernova remnants. The loops appear to fit the relation derived by Ilovaisky and Lelueux (1972a) reasonably well, which confirms the hypothesis that they are supernova remnants of great age (~10/sup 6/ years).
