Electron--phonon interaction in a strongly coupled superconductor, mercury: temperature dependence of the effective mass (in French)
Abstract
Thesis. The effect of the electron--phonon interaction on the properties of the conduction electrons of a normal metal involves a modification of the energy associated with them. At low temperature modifications of the self- energy with respect to processes at zero temperature are observed. Among the different metals for which the temperature dependence of the effective mass has been calculated or observed by cyclotron resonance measurements Hg is the only element on which it is possible to observe it by measurements of magnetization heat. The temperature dependence of the renormalization of the electron entropy due to the electron-phonon interaction was shown. Although this effect has been predicted for a long time, it has never been confirmed directly by experiment because of the difficulties associated with the contribution of the lattice. The experimental technique developed gives the superconductor electron entropy with great precision and permits the precise determination of the electron specific heat. (tr-auth)
