Some general properties of the equations of fluid magnetics are described. A set of standard nondissipative fluid equations coupled with Maxwell's equations by a Lorentz force term and some form of Ohm's law is adoptod. Within this frame there is a considerable amount of flexibility, e.g.. In the choice of an equation of state and of a form of Ohm's law and in the decision to include or omit displacement current, electrostatic forces, and electromagnetic momentum. An important criterion in making these decisions is the mathematical tractability of the resultant equations. (W.D.M.)

fluid and electromagnetic equations are mathematically identical to those of classical fluid dynamics. The exinstance of these analogies permits the application of known results in fluid dynamics to fluid magnetics. Examples are presented in the form of mathematical descriptions of parallel flows, two- dimensional transverse flows, conservation of circulation and Bernoulli's law, and one-dimensional transverse flow. Modeling gas displacement kinetics in coal with Maxwell-Stefan diffusion theory

The kinetics of binary gas counter-diffusion and Darcy flow in a large coal sample were modeled, and the results compared with data from experimental laboratory investigations. The study aimed for a better understanding of the CO{sub 2}-sequestration enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) recovery process. The transport model used was based on the bidisperse diffusion mechanism and Maxwell-Stefan (MS) diffusion theory. This provides an alternative approach to simulate multicomponent gas diffusion and flow in bulk coals. An analysis of the mathematical structure of the theory governing interaction of magnetic fields with conducting compressible fluids is presented. The basic equations governing magneto-hydrodyamics have the same mathematical character as those governing gas dynamics, and the same essential methods may be employed. A typical example is presented to demonstrate that onedimensional magneto-hydrodynamic flow problems can be solved with the aid of shocks and simple waves as in gas dynamics. (J.R.D.)
