Title: AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL

Abstract

A control system for a projection kinescope used in a facsimile scanning system and, in particular, meams for maintaining substantially constant the light emanating from the flying spot on the face of the kinescope are described. In general, the invention provides a feeler member disposed in such a position with respect to a projecting lens as to intercept a portion of the light striking the lens. Suitable circuitry in conjunction with a photomultiplier tube provides a signal proportional to the light intensity of the flying spot. The grid bias on the kinescope is controlled by this signal to maintain the intensity of the spot substantially constant.

  • This patent describes a multispeed automatic transmission system for vehicles having transmission gears which shift from low to high to low in response to the acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle wherein a vacuum modulator control is mounted in the vacuum line between the vacuum modulator and the intake manifold. The improvement described here is in the vacuum modulator control. The control is adapted for mounting at any desired location in the engine compartment comprising a cylinder, a piston slidably positioned in the cylinder. The cylinder has a front end face and a rear end face and a peripheral surface.more » A resilient means is in the cylinder for urging the piston toward one of the end faces and a stop means in the cylinder remote from the resilient means limits the amount of movement of the piston in the cylinder. A first port communicates with the interior of the cylinder through the peripheral surface, the first port communicating with the vacuum modulator, second and third ports communicating with the interior of the cylinder through the peripheral surface. The second and third ports communicate with the intake manifold whereby during deceleration air flows into the cylinder through the first port and exits from the cylinder through the second and third ports with the piston being urged against the resilient means and whereby during acceleration air flows into the cylinder through the second and third ports and exits from the first port with the piston being urged away from the resilient means.« less

  • This patent describes a control system for an automatic transmission in an engine powered vehicle comprising a pressure source; a clutch and brake means for effecting ratio changes including two top ratios and at least one lower, underdrive ratio; a hydrokinetic torque converter having a turbine connected to torque input portions of the gearing and an impeller connected to the engine; a pressure operated lockup clutch means in the converter for directly connecting the turbine and the impeller; a control circuit including pressure operated means for sequentially actuating the clutch and brake means and ratio shift valve means for controllingmore » distribution of pressure from the source to the pressure operated means; a converter clutch shift valve and a converter clutch shuttle valve in portions of the circuit connecting the pressure source to the lockup clutch means; and a source of an engine torque signal and a source of a vehicle speed signal connected to the converter clutch shift valve whereby the latter is shifted between a lockup clutch engaging position and lockup clutch disengaging position depending upon the relative values of vehicle speed and engine torque.« less
  • This patent describes a hydraulic control system for an automatic transmission including an input shaft operatively connected via a torque converter to an engine which contains a throttle which opens in degrees. The control system also contains an output shaft and selectively operated fluid friction units for producing a number of speed ratios between the input and output shafts. This system consists of a mechanism for generating a throttle related variable pattern fluid pressure corresponding to the output torque pattern of the engine as well as a means for generating a governor fluid pressure variable with the rotational speed ofmore » the output shaft. In addition, a cutback valve means is described which communicates with the throttle related fluid pressure generating means and the governor fluid pressure generating means for the generation of a cut back fluid pressure which increases with an increase in the throttle related fluid pressure and decreases with an increase in the governor fluid pressure. Equally important is a method which is described for supplying the line fluid pressure from the pressure regulator valve to the fluid operated friction units. The cut back valve generates cut back fluid pressure in response to throttle related and governor fluid pressures.« less
  • This patent describes a line pressure control device for a hydraulic control system of an automatic transmission, comprising: a fluid pump for producing a line pressure; line pressure passage means connected to the fluid pump for distributing the line pressure; a source of intake manifold vacuum; a vacuum diaphragm unit connected to the source of intake manifold vacuum for producing a variable force depending upon variations of the intake manifold vacuum; and a control valve connected to the line pressure passage means and having a valve spool movable to regulate the line pressure based upon the force applied from themore » vacuum diaphragm unit; the vacuum diaphragm unit including a casing having an inner wall, parallel first and second diaphragms disposed within the casing, vacuum chamber means defined within the casing by one side of the first diaphragm and by one side of the second diaphragm, atmospheric pressure chamber means defined within the casing by other sides of both the first and the second diaphragms in such a manner that the first diaphragm is subject to a differential pressure. It is urged away from the valve spool while the second diaphragm is subject to a differential pressure by which it is urged toward the valve spool. Spring means urges the first diaphragm toward the valve spool while the second diaphragm moves away from the valve spool, and rod means for connecting the first and second diaphragms to the valve spool. The first and second diaphragms, the spring means and the rod means are constructed and arranged so that the force reduces as the intake manifold vacuum increases and is supplied from the first diaphragm to the valve spool through the rod means when the intake manifold vacuum is lower than a first predetermined value.« less
