Kondo resistivity of Pr--Ce alloys
The electrical resistivity of double hcp Pr-- Ce alloys containm- g up to 25 at.% Ce was studied at 1.3 to 300 deg K. In addition to the usual divergence at T = 0 EK, evidence was found of structure at about 20 and 90 deg K. This was tentatively ascribed to the presence of Kondo sidebands of the type discussed by Maranzana (Maranzana, F. E., 1970, Phys. Rev. Lett., 25: 239) and was related to the cerium crystal field levels expected in the alloys on the basis of Rainford's (Rainford, B. D., 1971, A. I. P. Conference Proc. No. 5, Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, pp. 591-610) crystal field parameters for pure Pr. Evidence was also obtained under certain conditions for the existence of antiferromagnetic ordering in the alloys at around 26 deg K, similar to that observed in pure Pr by Meaden and his co-workers (Meaden, G. T., Krithivas, G. and Sze, N. H., 1972, J. Phys. Soc. Japan, 33: 1584). (auth)
