It was shown that in radiation-initiated polymerization of styrene the specific rate of polymerization does not depend on the number of latex particles up to a concentration of 10/sup 16/ particles/ml, which is different from the situation with the use of material initiators. It is suggested that when watersoluble initiators are at a concentration of more than 10/sup 14/ particles of latex per ml the drop in the specific rate of polymerization is the result of transfer of the chain to the initiator.
