Spectator isobar production with a deuteron target

The reaction pi + d yields pi + DELTA + DELTA /sub s/ is studied in the peripheral model in order to obtain estimates of the spectator energy and angular distributions for such experiments. The differential cross section with respect to the laboratory kinetic energy of spectator DELTA 's for 15 GeV incident pion is obtained by using the impulse approximation. Special features of the results are discussed. (LBS)
