The acoustic dispersion and absorption were analyzed for four hexafluoride molecules (UF/sub 6/, WF/sub 6/, MoF/sub 6/, and SF/sub 6/) by usin g the first approximation of the distorted wave method. From the result of calculation, double dispersion is expected for Uf/sub 6/, and is not expected for WF/sub 6/, MoF/sub 6/ and SF/sub 6/. It is also expected that the temperatur e dependence of vibrational relaxation times of the four molecules will satisfy the T/sup -1/3/ law. The computed results are compared with the available experimental data for SF/sub 6/ and WF/sub 6/. (auth)
