Title: SNAP-50/SPUR first flight powerplant: preliminary design specifications

Abstract

Declassified 17 Sep 1973.<>29:031286Declassified 18 Sep 1973. Analytical and design work was carried out in sufficient detail to define component envelopes, instrumentation and control requirements, electrical wiring, and piping and their arrangements in the SNAP-50/SPUR Powerplant Reference Design No. 1. A spacecraft configuration which is adaptable to the Titan IIIC launch vehicle was selected and design of the powerplant within the spacecraft using the component envelopes was carried out to study the problems associated with the overall integration and define the various interfaces. Use of the Titan IIIC requires that the powerplant mate to a 10 foot diameter at the top of the vehicle. Three configurations were analyzed and a 53 foot long, l0 foot diameter cylindrical envelope with a cylindrical radiator was selected on an overall weight basis. (auth)
