Present status of high-level liquid waste management from fuel reprocessing (in Japanese)
Problems concerning the management of high-level liquid wastes from fuel reprocessing plants are introduced and discussed. The hlgh-level waste liquid, its origin, quantity, and composition, and the distillation and heat removal processes in the Purex reprocessing are discussed. The complexity of the waste management problem is stressed. The present status and future of technical developments required for the treatment of such wastes, including liquid state storage techniques, solidification and solid state storage techniques are described. Solidification of the waste liquid and storage in the rock-salt mine pits is considered to be a most promising method and the development of this method is in progress. Policies and plans for the treatment and management of high-level liquid wastes ium and USSR are introduced. (JA)
