Title: MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF LOW-MOLYBDENUM-URANIUM ALLOYS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4324805

Slow cooling rates form &-phase which is deleterious to low temperature properties. For temperatures below ambient, a minimum cooling rate (~2? deg C/ min) is desirable. Rapid cooling rates result in stresses set up by the volume change of the P + gamma - alpha + gamma transformations. Thus a maximum cooling rate (5 deg C/min for 1.0 Mo to 30 deg C/min for 2.0 Mo) must be imposed to circumvent stresses arising from this transformation. Difficulty from the above could be avoided by cooling from gamma to 560 deg C, holding for roughly l hour, reheating to 650 deg C, holding for about one hour, l other heat
