INFLUENCE OF TOTAL BODY X-IRRADIATION ON THE LEVELS OF CREATINE PHOSPHATE, INORGANIC PHOSPHORUS AND ATP IN MUSCLE AND ON THE LEVELS OF CREATINE, CREATININE, N'-METHYL-NICOTINAMIDE AND NITROGEN IN URINE
The influence of total-body irradiation on the levels of creatine phosphate (CP), adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and inorganic phosphorus (IP) in muscle has been investigated in rats. CP and ATP levels decrease by about 33% while those of 1P increase 4 times in irradiated rats. Studies on the influence of irradiation on the excretion of creatine, creatinine, and N'-methyl- nicotinamide in urine show that the excretion of creatine and N'-methyl- nlcotinamide is increased two-fold while that of creatinine is increased by 160%. It is suggested that the low levels of creatine phosphate are probably due to an impairment in the phosphorylation of creatine or due to an adaptive breakdown of creatine phosphate leading to increased excretion of creatine and creatinine.
