X-ray diffractometry, including high temperatures, was used in studying the formation of alpha - and BETA -form crystallites and their melting point in poly(vinylidene fluoride) samples with different initial structures subjected to gamma -irradiation. It was shown that, in the alpha structures, the alpha-beta transition started at a dose of about 500 Mrads. The melting point of the BETA crystallites in the irradiated samples was higher than that of the alpha crystallites and depended on the initial conformation of the macromolecule. Depending on the structure of the poly(vinylidene fiuoride), irradiation with doses of 500 to 1000 Mrads and more, with subsequent crystallization from the melt or cyclohexanone solution, gave the BETA form rather than the alpha . The behavior of polyvinylidene fluoride samples with different initial structures is discussed. (tr-auth)
