ENERGY TRANSFER BETWEEN MODIFIED MAXWELL DISTRIBUTIONS
Abstract
S>A convenient modified form of Maxwell distribution is chosen. The modified expressions for the energy transfer from the ions to the electrons in a plasma and the bremsstrahlung from the electrons are calculated. Using the expressions some possible steady-state conditions for the ion and electron gases are derived and compared with those for the usual Maxwell distributions. (anth)

Integral range, energy, residual range, and linear energy transfer distributions for Californium fission fragments in microelectronics materials
This report discusses the advantages and limitations of using Cf-252 radiation sources for single event testing of microelectronics for space environments. Integral distributions for the range, energy, residual range, and linear energy transfer of Cf-252 fission fragments in absorber and microelectronic materials have been calculated. Techniques are suggested for determining when single event testing using Cf-252 is appropriate; also, techniques are given for estimating the saturation cross section and thresh old linear energy transfer from test data. 10 refs., 25 figs., 2 tabs. -
Nuclear fragmentation energy and momentum transfer distributions in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Progress report, period ended 30 June 1989
An optical model description of energy and momentum transfer in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, based upon composite particle multiple scattering theory, is presented. Transverse and longitudinal momentum transfers to the projectile are shown to arise from the real and absorptive part of the optical potential, respectively. Comparisons of fragment momentum distribution observables with experiments are made and trends outlined based on our knowledge of the underlying nucleon-nucleon interaction. Corrections to the above calculations are discussed. Finally, use of the model as a tool for estimating collision impact parameters is indicated. -
Role of deep inelastic processes in nuclear physics: experimental and theoretical aspects of deep inelastic reactions. [Mass asymmetry, diffusion, charge and angular distributions, energy and momentum transfer]
The collective modes excited in deep-inelastic reactions and their natural hierarchy provided by their characteristic relaxation times is described. The relaxation of the mass asymmetry mode is discussed in terms of a diffusion process. Charge distributions and angular distributions as a function of Z calculated with this model are in good agreement with experimental data. This diffusion model also treats the transfer of energy and angular momentum in terms of particle transfer, and is successfully compared with experimental ..gamma..-ray multiplicities as a function of both Q-value and mass asymmetry. The angular momentum transfer is again considered in connection with themore » -
Mass and charge distributions in iron-induced reactions and excitation energy division between the fragments of the 672-MeV [sup 56]Fe + [sup 165]Ho reaction
The projectile-like and target-like fragments produced by the 12-MeV/nucleon [sup 56]Fe + [sup 165]Ho reaction were detected in coincidence. The measured parameters were the mass, charge, kinetic energy scattering angle of the projectile-like fragments, and the scattering angle of the target-like fragments. The mass and charge distributions of the projectile-like fragments were generated as a function of energy loss, and characterized by their centroids, variances, and correlation coefficients. The neutron drift of the measured projectile-like products is mostly due to evaporative processes, while the charge drift is a result of a net transfer of protons from the projectile-like fragment tomore »
