Title: SUSCEPTIBILITY OF AISI 410 TO STRESS CORROSION CRACKING IN HIGH TEMPERATURE, HIGH PURITY WATER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4275003

BS>AISI-410 stainless steel tempered at 650 deg F to hardness of RC 36 to 42 was being considered as the material for a highly stressed part of a pressure-retaining member in contact with high-purity, high-temperature water. The AISl-410 did not indicate susceptibility to stresscorrosion cracking in hydrogen ammoniated (pH 8.5 to 9.5) or hydrogen--lithium hydroxide waters (pH 11) at 300 deg F for six months exposure. Nickel and chromium plates were also tested for stress-corrosion cracking in the same systems. Rssults are included. (W.L.H.)
