A simple treatment of the many-body problem is given using standard methodss but especially emphasizing the connection between the two-body distribution functions in momentum space and configuration space. With the results obtained, the first order energy of the hard-sphere, soft-sphere,'' square-well and LemmardJones gases obeying either Fermi or Bose statistics are easily reproduced. (auth)
