Title: Application of Radioactive Isotopes for the Investigation of Metallurgical Processes; PRIMENENIE RADIOAKTIVNYKH IZOTOPOV DLYA ISSLEDOVANIYA METALLURGICHESKIKH PROTSESSOV

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4259901

To study the stirring of steel in ladles and openhearth furnaces, the radioactive isotopes P/sup 32/, Ir/sup 192/, Fe/sup 59/, Cr/sup 51/, and Co/sup 60/ were used. The velocity of the diffusion of radioactive tracers in the steel bath is determined by the character of the motion of metal. The results of radiometric measurements on metal samples help to determine the time necessary for uriform distributior of the elements throughout the hath and to map the circulating flows of liquid steel.
